AZTLAN UNDERGROUND
Set to perform in Arizona, Chicago & Los Angeles
WHO:
Socially conscious world-renowned Aztlan Underground, an institution among Los Angeles groups and freethinkers. For nearly 20 years, Joe “Peps” (bass, rattle, flutes), Ignacio “Caxo” Lopez (drums), Yaotl (vocals, percussion) and Alonzo Beas (guitar, keyboard, synth) have cultivated a grassroots audience across the world, intriguing foreign audiences with their respect for the ancient ways and songs of ancestors mixed with the modern, industrial sounds of today.
Aztlan Underground’s music is a collaborative circle with no bosses and no leaders; each member contributes their personal story to the creation of a song. Four versions of the same story are told in four different ways at the same time.
“We’re simply a vehicle to inspire and send a message to empower, and enlighten. The world is at stake–the war–we’re all part of the puzzle. Everyone is being conscious, aware that the earth is speaking and things are changing.” – Peps
“It’s about the language of expressing what we see in one another, helping give voice to the voiceless and shedding light on injustice.” – Caxo
“It’s a reality check about the frailty of life.” -Yaotl
“It is significantly inspired by the mystery of where we come from and where we go when we die.” – Alonzo
WHAT:
Aztlan Underground is set to perform in Arizona, Chicago, Los Angeles in support of their newly released album Aztlan Underground, a record that is a spectrum of urban tribalism mixed with post-punk fusion. To the band: “This album is a callout, a document, a cry, of love for humanity and for the Earth.” Just as nature’s forces work to balance, Aztlan Underground is a merging of guitar, bass, drum, voice, and flute sounds implemented into a modern day context. The self-titled third album is currently available in digital format. Hard copy is due out in the early 2010.
